Hi Tris - I just happened onto your site and was impressed with the amount of content you have regarding atheism and also topics related to God or the lack of God.
I don't consider myself incredibly intelligent but in 50 years of living, I've known super smart and super stupid people who were both atheists and somewhat God centered in some way.
Let me say - I am a Christian and I also don't have any idea what that God-shaped hole is - I know and understand what they are getting at but it never had traction for me using reason. I found it very important especially early on to think and study a ton on many different things in order to try and and know with my head what my heart sometimes knows deeply... and sometimes I doubt... but that seems to generally be happening less and less. I lost my job earlier this year and I've need to trust God more through it to keep my sanity probably. I'm sorry if there have possibly been ignorant Christian bigots who are been insulting or hurtful to you... My wife who also is a Christian says we like to "Eat our own". Being judgmental ( for all ) is a trap that's easy to fall into.
I wish you well Tris! I have several British friends... My pastor is Welsh and our associate Pastor here in Peoria Illinois grew up outside of London. They have all of these silly "American" put downs or comments... all in good fun.
